We’ve thought that we’d bring the journey behind the scenes for every creation we did or we’d be doing …ultimately somebody famous said it “Sometimes its means, not the end justifies everything”
I was in Lucknow chilling out at approximately 35-40 degrees and was just planning many things in terms of writing and making some short movie etc but nothing concrete was coming out, in between fortunately thanks to curious soul (Samarth) send me a mail about contest by SHAMIANA and the NGO behind it.
You can get the information about bicycle project here and appreciate how noble the idea is and very motivating too.
Then after discussing bit we planned to shoot it in Lucknow, Samarth was in Agra. He took the pain of coming to Lucknow and the moment he arrived we started developing raw ideas we had in our minds, finally we came on conclusion we’d take the reaction of many kids who are working in cycle repairing shops. We wanted to see how they react to cycles as day in and day out they are repairing the cycles. But getting reaction was not an easy task. Surprisingly we asked many shopkeepers for shooting and told them that we are doing a college project. Nobody allowed us to take even a picture. Shopkeepers thought that we are from news channel and working on child labor things. Getting disappointed badly and wasting one whole day, we realized this happened because nothing was clear in our minds, what we wanted to do with the reactions.

First learning:
We are new to this shooting and stuff so we should be more planned about every inch what we want to do!!
Now after coming back home we brain stormed for at least 6-7 hours and prepared a rough draft about what we want and best thing was we were now clear with our limitations (believe me it helps

Shooting
What we did we just started the camera and started chatting with both of them for 1 hour each and in the process we realized for the first time, they both live in different worlds, their happy moments, their dreams, their aspirations all are so different.

Final Cut
Purpose of making this movie was simple… we believe through our movie some people would definitely give some happy moments to poor children.

"Every child deserves her/his part of happiness…isn’t it ??"

first, congratulations for such a nice post, but it cud have been better ..the comments frm 'Gaurang' appeared manipulated....
ReplyDeletei understand Its alwayz easy for a bystander like me to cticise but to be putting serious and dedicated effort for bereaved children or even for art's sake is definately demanding and thus commendable.
congrats again .....
God Bless!!
ur first short film?? i cant say..seriously a masterstroke guys!

Good work bhai.. Well I think not having any professional camera or script gives the real touch to the movie. What comes out from the video to me is value of something in someone's life. The girl wants to fly miles on the cycle and the boy wants to put it in Kabada.. Do we human always want and respect, we don't have or get? or We can't see what we have? Does life makes us like this or we make life to be this? I think there is more deeper sense to it, which is beyond my understanding I guess. I can find the questions, but answers are tough come by.. I enjoyed the video, and for technical or editing point of view. But, for a reason, if you watch it many times.. You will come out with a different perspective, rather a question..
ReplyDeleteDP and Samarth surely keep it up and really great job.. Keep flying higher and higher.

Hey Divya and Samarth,
ReplyDeleteThts on eof the sweet short film i hv seen.
Congrats!it comes across as a genuine effort.
U guys r creative too:)
hoping to see more such videos.
tiny droplets makes the sea....same way small efforts can make a huge difference in someone's life:)
u Rock!
With loads of wishes and warm regards:)Dnyan
Before writing these comments I watched this video atleast 10 times. I loved the idea behind this endeavor, the video concept and the directness of the presentation.
ReplyDeleteCreative people easily get tempted to add the so called "intellectual" angle to even the simplest idea. I am glad you did not get lured by this temptation and kept it earthy. Clarity of the message shows the sincere pre-shoot homework.
I could very easily connect to the honest flatness in the Ruby's dialogs and cynical tone in Gaurang's punctuated sentences.
When Ruby says "Lekin mere paas to cycle haii nahi, kya aap denge" the flatness momentarily betrays her and exposes the desperation, shyness in asking for something, and most importantly the an instant of glitter in eyes.
Backgrounds of the video chosen for both the characters exactly fits the context.
Surely certain parts of the video can be improved. At some places the background music faded a little too fast. The seams of the editing is visible at places and lighting could have been more articulate. But these are purely technical aspects which one learn with experience.
So, overall a great piece of creativity and sincerity!
A very frank portrayal of a very simple cause - I can relate to this coz I donated my own bicycle to my maid's daughter when i shifted to SIBM hostel as I knew i wudnt b using it.
ReplyDeleteFor that lil girl a bicycle means d world. We can actually learn to value d lil things in life- the message is a great one n it takes gr8 minds to put it across.
U guys rock as always. :) Keep it up.
good job boys...bahut hee pyaara....really touches the cords of heart... to chaen nahi hai tum dono ko ghar pe baithe bhee... - gurpreet
ReplyDeleteDPD and Samarth, at the outset I would like to give you guys a pat on the back for carving out a decently fine piece of work with all the limited resources you had. I have seen the video thrice and I liked the video for one specific reason - the remarkable contrast between aspiration and desperation. And the subtle irony I could figure out was that the girl's mild aspiration to get a cycle is completely defied by Gaurang's utter desperation of losing it. Ruby knows that if she has a cycle one day it will be a catalyst of change in her life but Gaurang is relentlessly adamant is getting rid of it because he thinks it tires him instead and its presence in his home deprives him of acquiring comfort and style which a scooty promises him.
ReplyDeleteGaurang, if not this year but in a year or two will be able to convince his parents but Ruby will live on hope.....today for a cycle... tomorrow, for a lesser miserable life...
DP at his best....its a very nice depiction of individual emotion of dream and aspirations....keep it up..good going

ReplyDeleteGood move Guys......nice vedio !
ReplyDeleteSirf bicylce nahi ...there are many who strive for just primary needs viz. "FOOD", clothing and shelter to bhul hi jao.....
Main Lab jati hun tab roj milti hun kuch aise baccho se jo traffic signal pe sundar flowers, khiloney, study books bechtey hai....whenevr I buy flowers or toys from them..just get tears...but dont do ne thing abt it...n just drive off. But soon I plan to sponser atleast one childs education.
Hope ur this move might be of some help to these...little angels....
Achhi koshish hai :)
ReplyDeletemain thoda connect nahi kar paya subject se khud ko .. the girl part was looking very spontaneous but the boy part was seriously looking articulated ..
kabhi aisa feel nahi hua ki ur video ask people to donate their extra cycle or donate .(my personnal feel)
It was looking that you guys want to show the disparity between two classes of society only !!
but the total video was looking very professional !!
great effort for really good cause. i appreciate that. But somehow i feel real characters doesnot sound real especially Gaurang. and it would be much better if you have given more importance to education rather than concentrating on cycle.coz i beleive atleast ruby is not deprived of studies unlike other kids of her age.
ReplyDeleteSamarth and DP great work guys, keep up the good work. The story behind the short film is very interesting. It needs a great deal to create such an awe inspiring video.Do post poems like "KYA LIKHU" .You guys Rock

nice one dude....good luck for your production
ReplyDeleteexcellent take on world'ly possessions we keep nagging for. this clearly brings out the fact that every human just wants that little next step to pursue one's own happiness.. for the kid who "wants" a scooty to the one who "needs" a cycle. One thinks sometimes in the rat race we forget about the society. but video like this always awakens us to see what we "should" acheive as a society.
ReplyDeleteThe great commonality between the two subjects and the stark difference between them comes out remarkably.
kudos to the two brains behind the excellent concept put to action for a great cause.
As always, your biggest fan!
Gaurav Ramdev
Sam & DP... Great effort.. I actually liked the short film... It depicts the 2 different sides of our country and also the importance of different things in their life...
